Using the website

Using Sudoku Slate.

Practical guidelines for playing, printing and sharing our puzzles, plus the limits of browser-saved progress and automated checking.

Play, learn and print

You can use Sudoku Slate to play standard 9 × 9 Sudoku, check a set of clues, read the learning guides and print puzzles for personal use. The website does not require registration or payment for these tools.

Printed sheets can include their answer key. When sharing a puzzle or guide, a link to the original page preserves its context and helps other readers find the current explanation. Please do not misrepresent the site’s guides or branding as your own work.

How to interpret results

Difficulty labels describe the site’s documented logical grading method. Individual experience will vary. Learn how the catalog, daily schedule and labels work on the methods page.

The solver treats every entered number as fixed and enforces standard row, column and 3 × 3 box rules. It does not check extra rules from diagonal, killer or other Sudoku variants. Incorrect or incomplete transcription can change the result.

A completed result is shown only when the checker finds a unique solution. If a check is canceled or reaches its time limit, there is no conclusion about solvability. The tool is not a step-by-step proof or an independent certification of a puzzle.

Local progress and service limits

Progress and completion records are saved in the current browser when storage is available. They are not backed up to an account and do not synchronize across devices. Clearing site data, private browsing, storage limits or browser cleanup can remove progress.

The puzzle catalog is finite, so ordinary and daily boards eventually recur. Printed output depends on browser and printer settings; use the print preview to check page size and margins. The print feature opens the browser dialog and cannot confirm that a physical sheet was printed.

Access can be interrupted by maintenance, browser restrictions or network failures. Keep any puzzle or result you want to retain outside the browser. Timers and local completion records are intended for personal play and are not independently verified competition records.

Use the site responsibly

Please avoid requests or automation that overload the service, interfere with other visitors or attempt to access systems beyond the public tools. When linking to outside material or submitting a puzzle for help, share only material you are entitled to use.

The privacy page explains browser storage, hosting requests and optional analytics. External websites linked from this site have their own terms and policies.
